SUMMARY:Richmond - Parent Night Out Respite Night
DESCRIPTION:Self-Care Time for Caregivers!\nWe all love our kids\, and we all need some adult time too. Enjoy some time away while VDSA keep your children ages 5 to 16 safe and occupied! This event is open to families of individuals with Down syndrome and their siblings. For our Parent Night\, we are accepting participants ages 5 to 16. Email Kim to join the waitlist for this event if registration is closed: kwoodbury@virginiadsa.org. \n\nThe VDSA Parents Night Respite Event will take place on Saturday\, March 22nd from 4 pm- 7 pm at the VDSA’s office (1504 Santa Rosa Rd. Henrico\, VA 23294). Individuals with Down syndrome (5 -16) and their siblings (5-16) are welcome at this event. Games and activities will be provided for the attendees. Please bring a labeled bagged dinner (something that does not need to be heated) and a water bottle as well as any other supplies your children may need during their time with us. \nWhen you register\, please add tickets for all of the children that will attend. You will also receive an email requesting additional information about your children that will assist us as we care for them on 3/22. We must receive all of the information back before Thursday 3/20 to ensure your family’s participation. \nVDSA staff along with volunteers (who have all passed criminal background checks) will be on sight to supervise the attendees. The max attendance for this event is 15 participants so the event will book up quickly! We plan to make these events more regular and offer sessions where we will welcome babies and children under 5 in the future. Attention To Detail. \nStructure: \n\nEach class lasts one hour and has a theme\, a discussion\, five games\, and ‘homeprov’ that the participants are to practice with friends and family.\nIn each class we will gradually build in real world scenarios by mostly playing games that imitate various jobs\, situations\, and connections in real life.\nEach week parents will receive an outline of what is coming up in the class.\nAfter the class\, emails will be sent to with ‘homeprov’ reminders.\n\nNote from Rob Snow – CEO and Creator \nThe Improvaneer Method Way focuses on supporting our mission while maintaining immense respect\, admiration\, and support for the individuals utilizing the program. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by Rocking your Socks!\nOn March 21st every year\, people all over the world come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing brightly colored socks. The date is symbolic because people with Down syndrome have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome\, and socks were chosen because the Ds chromosomes look like mismatched socks! On March 21\, 2025\, Virginia Down Syndrome Association will join businesses\, schools\, and organizations everywhere to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by rocking our fun socks! \n\nLocal Pick Up is available for all orders. Shipping is provided only for orders of 25 pairs or more. \nDeadline for orders is Monday\, March 18th \nLocal pick-up dates: \n3/17 – 4:00pm-7:00pm \n3/18 – 9:00am-1:00pm \n3/20 – 4:00pm-7:00pm \n\nVDSA Office: 1504 Santa Rosa Road\, Suite 124 Richmond\, VA 23229 \n\nOrders that need to be shipped will begin shipping the week of March 10th.
